GES Reposting Ongoing, But What About the Unposted University Graduates?

As the Ghana Education Service (GES) rolls out the 2025 Inter-Regional and Inter/Intra-District reposting exercise for teachers, one critical question continues to echo across the country: what about the thousands of university graduates with degrees in education who are still at home, waiting to be posted?

Every year, new graduates from public universities like UEW, UCC, and others complete their Bachelor of Education degrees — fully trained, certified, and ready to teach. Many of these graduates completed the same curriculum as their counterparts from the Colleges of Education. Yet, while college-trained teachers are automatically posted after graduation, degree holders have been left hanging, some for one, two, or even five years, with no clear communication on when they will be engaged.

This is not just an administrative delay — it’s a growing national concern. Ghana is in desperate need of qualified teachers, especially in rural and underserved communities. So why are trained professionals being left idle when schools are understaffed and overcrowded?

The Silent Struggle of the Unposted

These unposted teachers are not lazy. They’ve fulfilled all academic and professional requirements. Many completed their national service, passed their licensure exams, and have even done voluntary teaching to stay sharp. Yet, the silence from government authorities is deafening.

Some of these graduates are now battling emotional stress, depression, and financial hardship. Others have ventured into jobs unrelated to their training, simply to survive. It feels unjust — and even discriminatory — that despite possessing the qualifications, they are still sidelined.

Time for Answers, Time for Action

If GES is actively reposting teachers already in the system, then it is only fair for the government to also prioritize posting the backlog of university-trained teachers who have waited patiently for years. These graduates deserve clarity, direction, and timelines. The nation cannot afford to waste this valuable human resource.

We ask:

  • When will the government open the recruitment portal for degree holders?

  • What plans exist to absorb the backlog of unposted graduates?

  • Why the silence on their future?

👉Let’s Raise Our Voices

If you're an unposted graduate teacher or know someone who is, now is the time to share your story. Post on social media, write to your MP, and tag the Ministry of Education and GES. This issue can no longer be ignored. Reposting should not overshadow the greater need for fresh postings.

The dream of becoming a teacher should not become a lifelong wait. Ghana needs these teachers — and these teachers need Ghana to respond.
