A Black Wednesday for Ghana: The Helicopter Crash That Took Our Leaders

Image
Wednesday, August 6, 2025, will forever remain a dark day in Ghana’s history. I was getting ready for the day when I received the shocking news that a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter had crashed. At first, I didn’t believe it. But as updates began to pour in, the truth settled in painfully—the crash had taken the lives of eight people , including two respected ministers and other important personalities who were on board. This blog is my way of expressing not just what happened, but how deeply this tragedy has shaken me, and indeed, the whole country. The Crash That Shook a Nation The military helicopter, a Z‑9 type, left Accra that morning, heading towards Obuasi in the Ashanti Region. These were not just any passengers on board—they were national leaders on duty, committed to building a better Ghana. Sadly, the aircraft never reached its destination. A man whose voice became the sound of our joys, heartbreaks, weddings, and Sunday mornings. Rest in peace, Daddy Lumba. Even now, typing these words doesn’t feel real. How It Started for Me I was introduced to Daddy Lumba’s music at a very young age. It was Lumba time. As I grew older, I began to understand the lyrics. That’s when I truly appreciated how clever, bold, and poetic he was. Songs like “Theresa” , “Yentie Obiaa” , and “Sika Asem” weren’t just tunes—the...

Kenya, a beautiful country in East Africa known for its wildlife, culture, and strong people, is going through a very challenging time. Over the past few months, many things have happened that are affecting people’s daily lives—from violent protests and rising prices to food shortages and drought. In this blog, we will explore the key things happening in Kenya right now. The aim is to help you understand what is going on in simple language. Why Are People Protesting in Kenya? In June 2025, many young people in Kenya started going out to the streets to protest. These protests were sparked by the death of a well-known teacher and online writer, Albert Ojwang. He died while in police custody, and many people believed he was mistreated by the police. This created a wave of anger and sadness, especially among the youth. But the protests were not just about his death. Many people were also unhappy with a new government bill called the Finance Bill 2024 . This bill included new taxes and c...
