Remembering Dada K.D.: A Highlife Legend Gone Too Soon
Dada Kwakye Duah, widely known as Dada K.D. , was a beloved Ghanaian highlife musician known for his heartfelt love songs. His journey in music began at the young age of seven, and by 15, he was already playing instruments in church. During his teenage years, he joined friends during festive seasons to visit homes, singing and playing music. People around him quickly noticed his talent—especially his ability to sing other artists’ songs flawlessly—and encouraged him to pursue singing more seriously. After secondary school, Dada K.D. tried to join music bands, but many turned him away, saying he was too young. Still, he didn’t give up. His breakthrough came when he met Michael Osei Agyemang , who helped him record his first album, “Honey Love” , at GEE MAN’s studio . He followed this with two more albums— “Adi Nye Wop” and “Eden Na Megyee” . In 1998, due to challenges in the local music scene, he moved abroad to seek better opportunities.
