When news broke on 7th August 2025 that Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, the Asantehemaa, had passed on, it felt like a heavy cloud had settled over the Asante Kingdom. She was not just a royal figure sitting quietly at Manhyia Palace. She was a grandmother, a mother, a sister, and a guiding voice to many. Her life of almost a hundred years was full of wisdom, tradition, and service, and her death brought together the whole kingdom in mourning. As an Asante, I have always known that the Queen Mother is not just a ceremonial figure. She holds a central role in our traditions and leadership. The Asantehemaa is the mother of the nation, the one who advises the Asantehene and keeps the bond between the royal family and the people strong.
